5 out of 5 stars A bargain   April 3, 2009

This is a very versatile piece of kit with just about every connector you could wish for on the back - HDMI, SCART, component, composite and more, including VGA for connecting to a PC.

The screen resolution is 1920 x 1080 making it true HD and it was a doddle to set up and tune.

The only criticism I have is that the picture quality is not as good as an old CRT with SD signals. However this is true of all LCD TVs and the reason I have given it five stars is that the picture on this TV is better than many other makes costing a lot more money.

I imagine that with technology moving forward at its current pace it won't be long before cheaper, better products arrive but right now I would say this is a bargain.

Great product!
- Good price
- Good size (don't think you'd want any bigger if you were using it as a computer monitor anyway)
- Excellent viewing angle (you had to sit directly in front of my old monitor to see what was on it properly but not with this one)
- Not very reflective (my old monitor was practically a mirror which was never good on sunny days so this one is much better)
- Light and easy to move around (so good for students moving to halls and such like)
- Not to mention the fact it can cater for practically all your viewing needs, whether they be tv (freeview built-in so no need for a set-top box anymore), games consoles, computer monitor etc.
- Another reviewer obviously didn't pay that much attention when they said "No turn on/off switch, You need the remote to turn it on" beacuse strangely enough, there is one
I am yet to find something I don't like about it!

5 out of 5 stars A beautiful Full HD monitor   September 14, 2009

I bought the M227WD mainly to display videos taken with my new Sanyo Xacti Full HD (1080p 60 frames per second) camcorder. I connected the camcorder HDMI socket to one of the two HDMI sockets of the M227WD and the display was far better than I could have hoped for. It was superb showing vibrant colour. The camera freeze frame makes this an excellent combination for selecting the 1920x1080 stills I want to keep.

I've used the built in SD Freeview and the S-Video input. Everything works 'just like it says on the tin'.

However, because I've been using it in these other ways, it has only been a week since I plugged my computer into it but, from the moment I set the resolution to 1980x1020, I realised that this monitor was a great success. My graphics card is a GeForce 7800 GTX which allows me to fine tune the colour settings (and many other things) but this LG monitor didn't need any clever tweeks; the only adjustment I made was a very minor one to the green.

One of the first things to 'hit' me was that black text, even at very tiny point sizes, is really crisp and black. Later I found that the red, sometimes a problem with other monitors I've tried, was equally crisp.

In the past, for computer use, I've always chosen a Samsung monitor but, at the price this LG is offered, I thought I should be brave and 'give it a go'. The Samsung it replaces is a SyncMaster 225BW (1680x1050) The diagonal of the LG is 21.5" compared with the 22" of the Samsung so, as far as my desk is concerned, it was an easy swap.

Using the LG monitor with the computer I can edit my Full HD video at 1920x1080 instead of having to use the lower resolution of the Samsung monitor. I see things at 1920x1080 that I couldn't see when using the Samsung. It is an excellent Full HD Video screen suitable for Full HD movie editing (if you've got the software to do HD video editing).

Recently I got a Sky+ HD satellite box to use with my 42" Full HD TV. Just to see what happened, I plugged the HDMI of the Sky+ HD box into the second HDMI socket of the LG monitor. At a distance of about 40cm from the screen an HD channel (eg BBC HD) is full of the detail which I've come to expect from the 42" Full HD TV. I am sure it's just psychological but, to me, BBC HD looks better on the 21.5" LG than on the 42" HD TV!

On the 'down side', the built-in speakers should be considered a last resort; don't buy this monitor expecting quality TV sound!

My other minor criticism is that, if the height is adjustable then I can't find a way of adjusting it. The tilt works well so, with your desk (or chair) at the 'correct' height for your keyboard, you won't find the lack of height adjustment a problem.

5 out of 5 stars Excelent...does it all.   March 10, 2009

Have had this since Feb and I'm very happy with my purchase. This is perfect as a jack of all trades. The picture never dissapoints, very easy to switch inputs using the remote and the EPG is clear and simple.

The only feature that lets it down is the stand, a bit lightweight. However this screen is a much better solution than having a monitor and DBVT USB stick stuck in your PC. Buy one you will not regret it. Comes with 3 year warranty too.

Mine arrived yesterday and am really pleased with it.
Connected to it are :

Xbox 360 via HDMI , stunning (720P or 1080P)
Laptop with Blu-Ray via HDMI , stunning (1080P)
Desktop PC via DVI , stunning ( 1920x1080 , good refresh rate for fast paced games like rFactor. Looks almost 3D)

It's internal DTV tuner is also very good , I sit 2 to 3 metres away when watching TV and movies.

It's an utter bargain .
